The fifth foundation day anniversary of DESAM was celebrated today at S Kula Women's College, Nambol.
Moreover, a weak long 3rd general conference of DESAM was also inaugurated today at the same venue.
The celebration was graced by titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba and DESAM president K Chinglenkhomba Meetei.
President of the All Dimasa Students' Union Prafula Hafela, president of All Tripura Students' Federation Upendra Deb Barma, president of Komrem Students' Union T Babylon Kom, vice-president of KSO Puminthang Simte, vice-president AMSU T Jamesbond Mangang, AMMSO president Md Hanif Shah, general secretary of the Progressive Students' Alliance of Barak Valley A Bemthoi Chanu, vice-president of the Progressive Students' Alliance of Brahmaputra Valley Leimapokpam Tonu, Asst gen secy of Karbi Students' Union Tsonkiri Halse, and Dean of Students' Welfare MU Prof W Nabakumar also attended the function as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, DESAM VP PC Newton called upon the peoples of the North East region to unite and strive together for progress and development in the region.
He observed that the students of the region ought to unite together in the greater interest of the peoples of the region who have striking similarities with regard to their origin, cultures, traditions and languages.
Leishemba Sanajaoba also exhorted to struggle collectively for the common cause as many of the issues and problems facing the region are common to most of the States.
Quoting experts, Sanajaoba said that it would be hard to uplift the region at par with other parts of India without unification and a collective struggle on the part of the Northeastern States.
He also took serious note of the pathetic conditions of schools run by the State in Manipur.
In conjunction with the foundation anniversary of DESAM, nine dedicated school teachers were also honoured with the Chingu Maichou Khongnangthaba Mana.
