A protest rally cum public meeting was held at Sagang Playground today to denounce the killing of Samulamlan village chief K Rekhupthang Kom.
After the rally the meeting adopted various resolutions including prohibiting entry of armed activists (UGs), demanding clarification from MKRF for the murder at the earliest and apology from one Leibakngam for his reported comment on the incident.
It is pertinent to mention that a note of the MKRF was found besides the body of Rekhupthang while Leibakngam said to be president of Kom rem Union had speculated that a land dispute in Sagang area and preventing world champion boxer MC Mary Kom from attending a recent reception function also in Sagang area might be linked to the gunning down of the Samulamlan village chief on Dec 27, last.
Rekhupthang was Mary Kom's father in-law.
Other resolutions adopted in the public meeting attended by villagers from 27 villages of Sagang areas concerns making public the police investigation report and launching various form of agitation in case either the MKRF do not spell out reason behind the senseless murder or the police fail to arrest and killers.
Throughout the rally that began from Samulamlan Public Ground and culminated at Sagang Playground the protestors raised slogans denouncing the killing and demanding punitive action against the perpetrators.
The protest rally cum public meeting was jointly organised by Sagang Area United Club Association and Sagang Area Custom and Culture Organisation.
Speaking at the meeting, Rekhupthang's son K Pominlen referred to the MKRF note tucked inside his father's lifeless body and demanded that is at all the MKRF is involved in the killing reasons as to why such harsh action was initiated should be clarified.
He demanded that MKRF clarify within two days.
Meanwhile, the Kom Union, Manipur strongly condemned the slaying of Rekhupthang Kom.
