Suspect killed in encounter with Imphal West commandos

Imphal, August 28 2012:
A person suspected to be involved in abduction was gunned down today in an encounter with the Imphal West district police commandos at Senjam Chirang under Lamshang PS while an abducted man has been rescued.
Imphal West police were trailing the steps of abductors since this morning after receiving a report that one Radhakrish Katiwada (49), an accountant at Mangalam Ply Factory, Kanglatongbi was abducted by unidentified miscreants, police source said.
On receiving specific information about the presence of the abductors at Senjam Chirang, the police personnel swiftly launched a rescue operation in the area.
Police source further said that the suspected abductor was killed in retaliatory firing when abductors opened fire at the police team this evening around 5 .
The police rescued the abducted person, Radhakrish while conducting a search operation in the area in the aftermath of the encounter.
A .9 mm pistol and a Chinese made hand grenade were recovered from the possession of the slain man.
The body has been deposited at RIMS morgue for identification, the police said.
