Imphal, August 28 2012:
With the date of Panchayat Elections drawing nearer, preparations for the election to the rural civic bodies have become talk of the town with candidates spending huge expenditures to woo voters.
Altogether 60 candidates for Zilla Parishads, 161 for Pradhans and 1514 for the Members are in the fray.
Candidates are not leaving any stone unturned to woo the voters.
In the name of flag hoisting ceremonies, candidates are trying to outdo each other in showing strength rather than praying votes.
Feasting, poster campaigns, distribution of rice, fishes, meats and even liquors are becoming essential parts of the election campaign.
It is the election of members which is getting the front row attention with two or more candidates within a small ward clamouring favour of the voters.
It had also become a headache of every voter since all the candidates contesting for members of the wards are known to each other and are more like family members.
