Imphal, March 28 2018:
In connection with a no confidence motion moved against the Kwakta Municipal Council (KMC) Chairperson, a legal notice signed by five Congress Councillors including the Chairperson has been served to Bishnupur Deputy Commissioner Pawan Yadav.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, MPCC spokesman Kh Devabratta said that KMC has five Congress Councillors and four BJP Councillors.
The five Congress Councillors were also present at the press meet.
Devabratta said that copies of the legal notice have also been submitted to the Chief Secretary and the MAHUD Commissioner.
The spokesman said that the Bishnupur DC issued a notice on March 19 regarding the no confidence motion moved against the Chairperson but the same notice was made available to Councillors only on the morning of March 20 on which day the no confidence motion was supposed to be discussed.
The Congress Councillors have been demanding withdrawal of the same notice or trial of strength.
Chairperson Md Maheruddin said that he never submitted any resignation letter to the KMC Executive Officer.
He contended that it was the Vice-Chairperson who submitted a resignation letter by forging his signature.
Councillor Md Abdul Karim said that he was accosted by Vice-Chairperson Md Najeruddin and two other persons at Keishampat on his way back from Moreh to Kwakta.
As they offered a ride, Md Abdul Karim boarded a car in which the three were travelling and headed towards Kwakta.
However, instead of taking Abdul Karim to his home, he was taken to the residence of the KMC Ward No 3 Councillor before reaching Kwakta Bazar where he was allegedly forced to sign on a blank paper.
It was on this particular blank paper that the Vice-Chairperson wrote a resignation letter and the same was submitted to the Executive Officer, Md Abdul Karim said.
