Imphal, March 28 2018:
Apart from seizing a huge quantity of eatable items which did not have any manufacturing dates and which had even begun sprouting moulds, Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has closed down the bakery shop which was producing the items, at Nambol Sabal Leikai indefinitely, until and unless the shop takes up necessary measures to improve its unhygienic work place.
Speaking to media persons at JCILPS office at Sega Road Konjeng Hajari Leikai, today its students wing convenor Manjit Sarangthem said that Dini Bakery, the shop which was closed down indefinitely, is owned by one Md Sabiruddin (40) from Silchar who is currently staying as a tenant at the residence of one Soraisam Ranbir of Nambol Sabal Leikai.
He narrated that a team of five volunteers, led by him was able to seize eatable items which were covered in mould from the bakery during a drive at the locality.
When the JCILPS students wing team inspected the bakery kitchen, they found that the kitchen was in a dreadful and very unhygienic condition.
The volunteers found that dust and dirt were everywhere in the kitchen and the oil used for cooking had also been reused many times.
There were three children, under the age of 14 years, working in the kitchen as well, Manjit claimed and added that most shockingly, the bakery had been given a license (No 11616006000015) by FSSAI.
He further claimed that the cakes, bujia, buns etc made by the bakery did not have any manufacturing dates on them and appealed to the Food Safety Department of the State Government tp strictly monitor such practices.
Manjit also urged the authority concerned to investigate whether the license given by FSSAI as mentioned in the packaging of the bakery's items are genuine or not.
At a time when the indigenous people of the State are facing grave dangers from the alarming influx of non locals in the State, such practice of producing unhygienic and harmful items in a bakery, has raised doubts/suspicion of a scandal/conspiracy by non locals to slowly poison the indigenous people, Manjit claimed.
