CCpur, March 28 2018:
The Zillai Ghqs has today called on the Government to ensure the safe release of two drivers who were abducted for ransom on March 26 from their worksite at Nabil Khuman village in Churachandpur district within 24 hours.
The two drivers held hostage for ransom, which independent sources said amounts to about 20 lakhs, have been identified as truck driver Lalmalsawmlian of Lingsiphai village and an excavator (JCB) driver Khuplal ofTuili Leibul village.
Both the drivers are engaged with Mangbeldam, a special contractor athis worksite.
Claiming that the incident occurred barely a year after a similar episode was experienced by the same contractor at his worksite, the Zillai Ghqs in a statement issued today questioned why the Government is not taking any step to prevent the recurrence of such inhumane activities and tolerate the reign of terror at the risk of innocent lives.
They also questioned the integrity of armed SoO groups whose area of operation has been used as safe havens for carrying out abductions for ransom.
The student body has outlined a 24 hour deadline for the Government to act and secure the safe release of the duo, otherwise it has threatened to launch a series of intense agitation.
