No compromise in case of territorial integrity : Y Joykumar Singh

Imphal, March 27 2017: Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar Singh has said that the Government will never compromise when it comes to the territorial integrity of the State.

He made the above statement while replying to a query today, at the two days Farmers Fair cum Exhibition organised by KVK & ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Manipur Centre at Lamphelpat which he attended as the chief guest.

He assured that Chief Minister N Biren who left for Delhi would certainly bring up this issue to the National leaders.

"The Central Government has always assured that the territorial integrity of the State will not be harmed in any way, so the people need not worry", he said.

Joykumar also said that the State Government would provide every possible help and support to the injured and the family members of those killed in the unfortunate accident of the tourist bus travelling from Dimapur to Imphal adding that he already went to the hospital and offered a sum of Rs 4000 each to injured people as emergency aid.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chancellor, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Professor M Premjit Singh, taking the case of Punjab said that in the name of Green revolution, the soil and water have been rendered almost useless and toxic for cultivation of crops although crop yields increased.

He said that the aim of the 2nd green revolution is to bring higher yields as well as maintaining the favourable condition of the environment in the process.

Most of the farmers in the North East regions do not use artificial fertilizers and chemicals, he said adding that this is the main reason the North East is regarded as the organic hub.

"Manipur is a State surrounded by hill as such it is imperative to improve the agricultural productivity which will in turn raise the income generating capacity of the farmers", he added.
