Ekal Abhiyan workshop held

A one-day workshop on 'Ekal Abhiyan' was organised by Ekal Abhiyan Manipur Anchal at Marwari Dharmashala in Thangal Bazar today.
Elaborating on Ekal Abhiyan while speaking at the workshop All India Ekal Abhiyan project officer Madhawendra Singh said the programme is being successfully implemented at various parts of India under the aegis of Friends of Tribal Society.
Informing that Ekal Abhiyan was introduced to Manipur at Thoubal and Bishnupur districts since 2004, he said the same had been implemented at Senapati district since 2006 .
Objective of Ekal Abhiyan is said to be facilitating both academic and vocational education of children in remote areas along with encouraging the children get involve in extra-curricular and physical fitness activities.
According to the project officer, learning materials are provided to the children between class I and III under the programme while a teacher is supposed to impart lesson to the pupils for atleast three hours a day.
The programme has been able to cover over 4000 students in the three districts of Manipur, said Madhawendra adding that 90 teachers are being engaged in each of the district.
Further informing that efforts are on to establish educational institutions under Ekal Abhiyan programme at Imphal East and West districts, he expressed confidence that today's workshop would be able to create awareness and promote quality education in the State.
