Naga militants kill businessman in Dimapur

Dimapur, May 12 2011:
A prominent businessman from Dimapur has been murdered after abducting him for ransom by Naga militants.
The dead body of Md Israr was found shot dead on Thursday early morning at 7th mile in Dimapur, near Essar Petrol Pump after he was abducted on Tuesday for ransom.
In this connection, one NSCN-IM 'major' identified as one Rasu has been arrested by Dimapur police.
Three other NSCN-IM cadres are absconding, said the police.
Meanwhile, the NSCN-IM has strongly condemned the killing of the businessman and said if any of its cadres are found involved in the incident heaviest punishment will be awarded to the culprits.
The NSCN-IM said the joint council meeting of the Steering Committee (the highest decision making body of the outfit) and the outfit's cabinet held today, in its strongest term condemned the abduction and killing of a prominent businessman Md Israr at Dimapur on May 12 .
The meeting also decided that if any NSCN-IM cadre is found involved in this heinous crime, he shall be dealt with "heaviest punishment".
To this effect, investigating agencies of the outfit have been activated to immediately get hold of the culprits still at large, said the NSCN-IM.
The outfit also conveys heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members and business communities of Dimapur.
According to sources, Md Israr dealt in sand and stone chips.
He was abducted on May 10 at around 7 am from Burma Camp area of Dimapur but he was found murdered with a bullet mark on his head.
The sources further said a sum of Rs three crores was demanded from the businessman for his release which was ultimately negotiated down to Rs 16.5 lakhs after the negotiation.
Meanwhile, protesting against the murder, there has been lightning closure of all the shops in the Nagaland commercial hub Dimapur soon after the news of the murder began to spread.
The Dimapur business community has given a three day ultimatum for arrest of the three other accused.
According to police officials, the NSCN-IM major was nabbed on Wednesday evening during the transaction of money at Chekiye village.
Two relatives of the victim had gone to the directed place to pay the money, as Special Forces from the police lay in wait.
The dead body of the abducted businessman was recovered shortly after that.
