Dimapur, December 09 2016:
A four member 'peace team' of the Naga Mothers Association (NMA) crossed the Nagaland borders to meet the NSCN-K and appealed for consideration of a Ceasefire in the interest of peace .
The NMA team consisted of itsPresident Mrs Abeiu Meru ,Advisor of NMA, Dr Rosemary Dzuvichu,Secretary of NMA, Mrs.Lochumbeni Humtsoe and NMA member Ms.Angela Yhome.
"The appeal from the NMA would be conveyed to the NSCN-K Chairman and the NMA 's request for meeting him has been accepted. The peace team will be meeting him soon," the NMA press note said.
This is the second peace mission for a dialogue with the NSCN-K across the borders since last year.
The NMA has expressed its hope of meeting the Chairman of NSCN-K soon.
The NMA team then expressed its grattude to the "Inspector General of Assam Rifles and his Commanders" for granting permission to cross over without any problems and the willing support given for peace initiatives by the "Naga mothers" .
"We earnestly appeal as mothers, to both sides, for restraint and to avoid armed confrontations and killings, in the interest of peace in our land. The NMA is deeply committed to carry on the peace initiatives further and will do so," it added.
"On our return, the attention of the NMA is drawn to the news report carried by the Nagaland Page from another news agency ,which has claimed the delegation is being led by some wife of an NSCN-K official. The report is false and speculative and we request that proper confirmation be made before going to press in future," the NMA note added.
It then said that at a time when "we are in the midst of armed conflicts, it is also such wrong information that gives rise to misunderstandings" .
