T Ranjit takes over as first DC of new district; Kpi erupts in joy with night long celebration

In a historic event that will remain in the minds of the people of Sadar Hills, young and old, men and women, boys and girls, T Ranjit Singh, IAS took charge as the first ever Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi district today at around 3.30 pm at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi DHQs.
With the midnight declaration of seven new districts in the State including Kangpokpi, the district headquarters witnessed a night long celebration that stretched till dawn.
National Highway 2 passing through the district headquarters remained lively with a host of people playing music, dancing, cheering and shouting throughout the night welcoming the long cherished district status.
The moment news of the state Cabinet's decision to upgrade Sadar Hills to a full-fledged district in the name of Kangpokpi district spread, people gathered on National Highway 2 at Kangpokpi DHQs and started celebrating the district status with joy and contentment braving the chilly winter night.

They sang, shouted, played music, cheered and congratulated one another.
Their joys were lovely, lively and at the same time emotional.
Some drove along the highway with horns blaring all along the road with many raising their voices, "our long cherished dream has been fulfilled" while some dance and sang at the heart of the district headquarters the whole night till dawn.
They also stopped any vehicle passing the highway conveying their happiness and allowed them to move on wishing them a happy journey.
The morning joggers and businessmen who came out early in the morning joined the whole night celebration while offering tea and snacks to the people.
While some paid tributes to those who had lost their precious lives for the cause of districthood from the 1974 till 2011 movement, some were emotional in recalling the past and the destructive events as well as the untold hardships faced by the people for more than 4 decades.
They hugged one another, congratulating and welcoming the district status.
In the morning, a pamphlet written, "Long Live O Ibobi Singh", "Long Live Manipur Congress Government" was pasted in some State capital bound passenger vehicles by the people.
Amidst the public exuberance over the district status, the appointment of first Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi district T Ranjit Singh added more joy.
Kuki Inpi, Sadar Hills and other civil bodies of Sadar Hills including KWU, KSO, TSA, Town Committee, KWWO and KYU welcomed the first DC of the district at his office chamber with a vote of gratitude.
Speaking to the civil society organization leaders, the IAS officer, who had also served as the Addl Deputy Commissioner from 1998 to 2001 at ADC Kangpokpi, said that if any social element or underground elements try "to disturb me then I have no enthusiasm to work for you.
But for any constructive things in the district I am always ready to help" .
Known as a 'man of work' the first Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi district, who had already supervised two Assembly elections and one Parliament election also said that with the cooperation of the civil bodies and the public he will perform his duty for the well being of the people.
The civil society organizations also assured to extend full cooperation to the first Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi district.
In connection with the change of name of Sadar Hills district to Kangpokpi district, the people of Kangpokpi are of the opinion that as long as the existing district boundary is maintained they have no problem with the name.
The first Superintendent of Police of Kangpokpi district is likely to assume office tomorrow.
