Imphal, August 28 2010:
Properties worth around Rs 2 lakhs have been reduced to ashes by a fire that broke out at the pharmacy of a clinic at Khonghampat Awang Leikai in the wee hours
this morning.
As there was no electric at the time when the incident happened and no other possible source, locals expressed suspicion that the fire might be the handy work of some miscreants.
The clinic cum pharmacy is being run in the locality by a private firm, Editcpox.
According to the Manager of the firm, Khundongbam Gyaneshwar, all the furniture and medicines kept inside the pharmacy including many life saving drugs were ravaged by the fire that broke out at around 3.30 am.
However, he added, timely action of the locals controlled the fire from spreading to other parts of the clinic and neighbouring houses.
He added that the clinic, which has a doctor, a nurse, a lab technician and a chemist has been serving the people of the locality since past many months.
Normal functioning of the clinic cum pharmacy would be restored within few days, he added.
