After success at Bishnupur, Thoubal, Imphal East and some parts of hill districts, the second session of the 4th phase of the Campaign for Unity, Development and Peace (UNIDEP) which had begun in Imphal West district was launched at Ishok, Nambol today.
People of various communities participated in the campaign which was kicked off with convenor of Campaign UNIDEP and AMUCO president R Yangsosong Koireng, president of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president L Memchoubi, president of Nambol Apunba Meira Paibi Lup L Sanahanbi, retired ZEO Ng Nobo, retired principal of Hindi High School Sanahanbi, secretary of Leisha Phal of Hidaksungbam village Apunba Kamei and Haokholal of Sadar Zoute taking the dais.
Talks on various topics like historical perspective on sovereignty and integrity of Manipur, emotional integration among the different groups of people living in Manipur, role of the majority community in promotion of peace and unity among the people, etc were delivered by the resource persons and facilitated discussion on various relevant issues.
Participating in the discussion, Apuina Kamei pointed out that peace is the most important element required for a development of the society.
But there is no peace in Manipuri society today.
So it is time to find out why peace has remain illusive, she said.
She further pointed out that the Manipuri society can be saved only with the collective will and responsibility of all its people.
Yangsosong asserted that after Manipur was forcibly merged with India, the very essence of the Manipuri society has been lost forever.
Moreover, wedges are being driven to set one community against another.
This is really unfortunate, he said while emphasising on common understanding of the origin of the Manipuri people.
It is time to understand the attitude of the Government of India toward the people of Manipur, he added.
