Ukhrul, May 02 2014 :
Against the backdrop of many women from the district said to be employed in unlicensed and unregistered Spas in Delhi and Gurgaon areas thereby bringing bad name to the community, the apex Tangkhul body, Tangkhul Naga Long, today convened an emergency joint meeting of various Tangkhul social organisations.
The meeting participated by representatives of various bodies like TSL, TMNL and TSL, Delhi deliberated on the degrading moral values of the community's youths.
Felicita Shongva, President of Tangkhul Shanao Long, Delhi said that four girls from the district were among those arrested during a raid in a Spa at Gurgaon on April 22 .
Although all the arrested girls were released on bail the next day, they all are perceived to resume working in the Spa.
Felicita Shongva pointed out that among the 300 Tangkhuls living in Gurgaon, 100 are females.
Of these, 95 percent of them work in unregistered Spas which flourished with the patronage of police, local goons and even politicians.
Young women are in high demand in these Spas and Massage parlours.
They earn monthly income ranging from Rs 40,000 to Rs 70,000 .
Expressing concern over the degrading moral values, the joint meeting today renewed its pledge to uphold the resolution of TNL adopted in 2012 which decided to constitute a high level committee to monitor social ills.
The meeting also endorsed the decision of two villages where the four arrested girls in Gurgaon belong to penalise them as per Tangkhul customary law.
