Imphal, February 26 2019:
Denouncing the turtle pace in expediting the process for conversion of the Jiri College into a full fledged Government college even after it was adopted as one on December 8, 2016, the Jiri College Employees' Association (JCEA) has started cease work strike and shunned form fillup processes for admission to BA, BCom and BSc in the college.
Speaking to media persons at Jiribam News Network's conference hall, general secretary of JCEA, L Jaminikanta Singh said that the only college in Jiribam was cleared for conversion into a full fledged Government college on December 8, 2016 .
But the due process for conversion of the college is not finished yet, he said condemning the authorities concerned and the Government for the delay.
The JCEA had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister when he visited Jiribam.
Assurance was given to them by the Chief Minister to expedite and speed up the process, but without any result, he said.
"JCEA had to submit another memorandum to the Chief Minister and Education Minister through Jiribam DC on December 27, 2018 Meeyamgi Numit at Jiribam, following which the Chief Minister advised the Administration Department to expedite the conversion process.
But the process has not been finished till today," he said.
"Post creation for the six colleges converted on June 6, 2018 was done on February 22, 2019 .
But the conversion processes of the only college in Jiribam which was adopted as a full fledged Government college on December 8, 2016 years before the conversion of the six colleges is yet to be finished," he said condemning the Government for the 'indifferent' attitude shown.
Appealing the Government and authorities concerned to expedite the process by February 27, JCEA cautioned the Government that it will take up intense agitations along with different CSOs and student organisations.
Dr Th Randhani Devi, president, Dr H Joykumar Singh, vice president and K Saratkumar, treasurer and members of executive body attended the press meet.
