Imphal, February 23 2015:
Reacting to the statement of Th.Chaoba, president, BJP, Manipur State Unit that Sadar Hills would be upgraded into a full fledged district if BJP comes to power in the next Manipur Assembly Election, the United Naga Council (UNC) has lambasted Chaoba's assurance as a direct challenge to the 4 MoUs and total disregard to peoples' political sentiments.
If anything goes out of proportion by such political agenda of incitement, Th Chaoba and BJP State Unit should be held responsible for any eventuality, said a press release issued by the UNC.
The so called Sadar Hills issue is one of the bone of contention that divides tribal communities.
Many bandhs and blockades had been organized and even precious lives and properties had been lost in connection with this issue.
One need not go into the details of the pains and miseries that had been endured.
Chaoba and his party should not forget the four MoUs' signed between the Government of Manipur and the Naga civil societies on 14th December 1981, 10th November 1992, 27th September 1996 and 23rd June 1998 in connection with the Sadar Hills issue.
The Naga people seriously viewed and warned him of his comment and also, he and his BJP party should not forget that the Government of India had also directly involved in this sensitive issue in the recent past.
Saying that since Mr.Th.Chaoba had opened the Pandora's Box of the so called Sadar Hills, he and BJP State Unit should be held solely responsible for any consequences and the UNC warned all political parties/groups/individuals not to play the communal card of the so called Sadar Hills with electoral politics or otherwise.
