2,500 CBSE students in State likely to miss board exams

Imphal, February 23 2015: More than 2,500 students are staring at the possibility of missing out on the upcoming Class X and XII examinations, 2014-15, conducted by CBSE as they have not receive their admit cards with just a few days left for the examinations.

It is learnt that the unfortunate students were admitted to institutions that are not recognized by CBSE but their examinations forms were being submitted to CBSE through affiliation to schools recognized by the board as part of a racket.

The present predicament of the 2,500 odd students and their guardians is nothing new as the 'CBSE racket' has a long history.

Last year, Hueiyen Lanpao broke the news of leaking of question paper hours before the commencement of the examination.

After the question paper was uploaded in the web, it snowballed into a big controversy.

Talking to media persons on Monday, president of DESAM, Moirangthem Angamba raised apprehension about the alleged involvement of influential politicians and high ranked bureaucrats of the state, including Works Minister Dr Kh Ratan, PDA chairman T Mangibabu, chief secretary of Manipur PC Lawmkunga and Imphal East DC M Joy in the CBSE business.

In the most likely scenario, the present crisis originated after the failure to send in time the examination forms of the students who were admitted to five unrecognized schools but were later affiliated to MM Higher Secondary School and Little Rose Higher Secondary School, both recognized by CBSE, Angamba stated.

One of the five unrecognized school - Akash Institute of Arts located in Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai, came under an arson attack recently and its building and furniture were destroyed.

The other four schools are Central Institute of Sciences, Galaxy Senior Secondary School, Akash Institute of Sciences and Arts, Sangaiporou, Ramkrishna Higher Secondary School and ASEAN Co-educational Institute.

DESAM has henceforth banned the operation of such bogus schools which are not accorded recognition by CBSE.

The students' body has further demanded the cancellation of recognition given to Little Rose Higher Secondary School and MM Higher Secondary School.

According to Angamba, Chief Secretary Lawmkunga wrote a letter to CBSE authorities on February 17 last seeking permission to allow 617 class X students and 657 class XII students of MM Higher Secondary School to appear at the upcoming board examinations.

Chairperson of CBSE responded by seeking detailed information of the candidates before February 19 .

However, the school failed to meet the condition, the DESAM president said claiming that the school might not have possessed the documents in the first place.

He reprimanded the Chief Secretary for agreeing to correspond with CBSE officials on behalf of the school.

Works Minister Dr Kh Ratan, PDA chairman T Mangibabu, and Imphal East DC M Joy also wrote similar letters to the CBSE officials, Angamba claimed.
