Meet on geo-textiles

An awareness programme on enhancing quality by way of using geotextiles in construction of roads, water reservoirs and protection of slopes was held today at the PWD conference hall.
Of recent development, geotextiles and related technology are being widely recommended for construction of roads, water reservoirs and protection of hill slopes in hilly regions like the North East.
The Ministry of Textiles has already introduced a new scheme "Scheme for Promoting Usage of Geosynthetic Textiles in North East Region", and the Ministry has been promoting usage of geotextiles in civil construction works.
The awareness programme held today was jointly organised by the Ahmedabad Textile Industry's Research Association (ATIRA) in association with the State Works Department Principal Secretary (Works) MH Khan, PWD Chief Engineer Kh Temba and ATIRA Deputy Director CR Prayog attended the awareness programme as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
In the first technical session, ATIRA-NERC Guwahati in-charge PS Barbora presented a paper on "Scheme for promoting usage of geotechnical textiles in NER", Dr Lakshmana Rao of RL Geosewa Pvt Ltd Hyderabad talked on "Application of three dimensional geocells in highway construction", and IIT Guwahati Associate Professor Dr Murali Krishna presented a paper on the topic "Geosynthetic applications for pavement and slopes".
During the second technical session, Reliant Foundations Pvt Ltd Chief Consultant Dr UK Baruah presented a paper on the topic Geosynthetics for cost effective and durable roads", N Nayyar of Gripple India, Gurgaon spoke on "Erosion related problems and their solutions" and Dr Lakshmana Rao of RL Geosewa Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad spoke on "Application of geosynthetics on water storage reservoirs" .
