Imphal, April 20 2018:
In what is seen as a serious breach of the Aadhaar Act, Aadhaar numbers of some students have been found uploaded on the website of the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) .
According to Section 29(4) Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefit and Subsidies) Act 2016, displaying Aadhaar number of any citizen in any public domain, order or circular is illegal, and all those individuals/agencies involved in committing such unlawful act are liable to be fined and imprisoned for up to three years, informed a source.
However, Aadhaar numbers of some students of NIT 2013-14 batch are displayed in the notification column of www.cohsem.nic.in till the time of filing this report.
The Aadhaar numbers are displayed against their names in the list of students who received scholarship under the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students for the academic session2016-17 .
As the matter has been brought to the notice of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry has asked the State Government to rectify the blunder immediately.
The Ministry further instructed the State Government to ensure that no such blunders are committed again, informed the source.
Taking serious note of the Home Ministry's instruction, the State Home Department has asked all concerned not to upload of Aadhaar number of any citizen on any website.
Displaying or uploading Aadhaar numbers in public domain, circular or order is a serious challenge to one's privacy and it can also lead to serious problems, said the source.
