Retired DSP of Manipur Police, Md Abdul Latif was remanded to five more days in police custody after he was produced before the Special ND&PS Court Manipur by a team of Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) for further investigation regarding his alleged involvement in the smuggling of a large consignment of synthetic drug, World is Yours (WY) tablet worth around Rs 40 lakh in the local market.
The retired DSP of Manipur Police, who also served in the NAB police station in the.early 90s, Md Abdul Latif (63) s/o (L) Md Shahabuddin of Dewlaland Kabow Leikai was produced before the Court by the IO with a prayer for eight days further police custody remand so as to enable further investigation into the case, extract more information in connection with the drug trafficking and to arrest his associate as well as analysing the CDR of the seized mobile phone and bank transaction of the accused.
The IO, through the Special PP submitted that the accused Md Abdul Latif was first produced before the Court of CJM Tamenglong and was remanded to police custody till today.
The IO further submitted that joint interrogation of the individuals arrested in connection with the case is yet to be completed and illegal drugs which are hidden at different locations are yet to be found.
An application for remand objection and to release the accused on bail was moved by the defense counsel who submitted that the investigation agency has been given ample opportunity to investigate the case.
Having heard the Special PP and defense counsel of the alleged accused and going through the material on record, the Court remanded Md Abdul Latif to five more days in police custody, till April 24, for further investigation.
The Court also put up the remand objection application filed by the defense counsel for hearing on April 24 .
It may be mentioned that retired DSP Md Abdul Latif was arrested on April 13 at around 8 pm from his residence based on the disclosure of one Manzil Ahmed Lasker (30) s/o Jamoir Uddin Lasker of Uttar Lalpani, Cachar, Assam, who was arrested by a team of 23 Assam Rifles personnel at Kaimai check post on April 10, for illegal transportation of 1 lakh WY tablets, (weighing around 11.34 kilograms) in his Force Cruiser vehicle.
On the other hand, according a reliable source, the wife of the accused Md Abdul Latif was also remanded to police custody till tomorrow after she was produced before the Court.
