Parbung Ginger Festival : Rs 75 lakh marked for ginger farming

Chief Minister N Biren Singh inaugurated the first ever State-level Ginger Festival Cum Business Summit at Parbung in Pherzawl district today.
Speaking at the occasion as the chief guest, he announced that a ginger processing unit having solar drier system and packaging units would be set up at Parbung at the earliest.
He also announced that the Government has earmarked Rs 75 lakh for ginger fanning at 200 hectares of land under Mission Organic at the area.
Expressing hope that it would largely benefit the villagers, N Biren Singh said that out of this total amount, Rs 35 lakh would be provided as grants to farmers.
Mentioning about rich flora and natural resources of the State, the Chief Minister said that the State would host a World Bamboo Conference in February next year.
Around 100 delegates from different countries would participate in the conference, he added.
In this regard, N Biren asked officials of Forest and Horticulture Departments and DCs concerned to have regular deliberations to make the conference fruitful.
As the ginger price fixed by the villagers of the district is higher than the market price, the State Government has decided to contribute Rs 20 lakh to ensure profit to the villagers for this year, the Chief Minister said.
He also said that Rs 10 crore has been earmarked to construct cold storages at 13 different places of the State.
The Chief Minister stated that the State Government has decided to launch 'Go to Village' mission in order to ensure delivery of benefits of different social security schemes to grassroots level.
Regarding mobile network and internet connectivity, N Biren Singh said that BSNL would take up necessary steps to enhance internet connectivity at the area.
Horticulture and Soil Conservation Minister Th Shyamkumar said that Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department has been able to work closely and in better coordination with the people of different districts with the coming of the new Government.
Demands for ginger is generally high but the State has failed in marketing due to different reasons, he said while adding that the new Government would channelize marketing of different horticuL-ture products now.
Under the abled leadership and supervision of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, all the Ministers and officials of different departments are travelling to every nook and corner of the State to address the needs and grievances of the people, he added.
Works Minister Th Biswajit, Manipur Tribal Development Corporation (MTDC) Chairman and Thanlon AC MLA Yungzagin Valte, Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu and other high ranking officials of the State Government also attended the function.
Cultural extravaganza, products exhibition, seminar/workshop and musical night etc are the main highlights of the two-day festival organised by the Ginger Festival Organising Committee with an objective to encourage ginger growers and promote organic high quality ginger of the State.
