Altogether eight recommendations, including improvement of Women Police Department at policy level, were adopted during a consultation programme on crime against women and the role of women in law enforcement, held at Classic Hotel, today.
The consultation programme was organized by Women in Governance, Manipur (WinG-Manipur) and was attended by Victoria Yengkhom, SP, Kakching, Yumnam Rupachandra, Chief Editor, Impact TV and Bijaya Yumlembam, Programme Executive, AIR, Imphal, as resourSe persons and moderator respectively.
Various recommendations like recruiting more number of women in the law enforcing departments, establishing women police cells in all the police stations (especially in all districts), increasing the number of Investigating Officers (IOs) and expediting promotions for women in uniforms, gjving more exposure/training to women in law enforcement, providing special attention to transgender issues and sexual assault cases.
And placing transfer policy, were also adopted during the event.
Speaking at the function, SP Victoria asserted that crimes against women are on the rise due to the prevailing gender inequality in the society.
Even the women in uniform are suffering due to various restrictions being imposed by the Society, she added.
She urged the Government to create more posts for women police officers and recruit more women police to expedite and enhance the performance of women police in the State.
