Imphal, October 17 2017:
High-lighting the ever increasing number of vehicles and resultant congestion on the roads at Imphal and greater Imphal areas, Shiv Sena State unit has urged the State Government to develop adequate parking lots at suitable places in public interest .
Speaking to media persons at their Babupara office today, Shiv Sena State unit president M Tombi observed that traffic snarl has become a serious issue at Imphal and people going to hospitals for medical emergency often encounter harrowing problems .
Even though many roads of Imphal were expanded during the previous Government, the expanded sections have been turned into parking lots, and shopkeepers have been occupying considerable space in front of their shops, Tombi said .
With the roads so congested, it would be a total disaster in case a major accidental fire breaks out in any part of the capital city .
Parking vehicles along RIMS Road and in front of the Civil Secretariat has been causing immense difficulties to the public, he noted .
Appealing to the Government to develop proper parking lots at suitable places, M Tombi said that he met the Chief Minister yesterday and urged the latter to construct foot-bridges at BT Road, Keishampat junction and near Nupi Lan complex .
He also hailed the new Government for laying foundation stones for construction of new Barak and Makru bridges with RCC .
He further appealed to the State police to check dice games in the name of Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba festivals.
