Imphal, June 15 2013 :
Protesting last minute cancellation of the MBBS/BDS entrance examination 2013 as well as demanding details about the Supreme Court ruling, if any, aborting the medical entrance test, volunteers of Manipuri Students' Federation today locked up office of the directorate of Health Services.
Swinging into action against the office closure agitators, Imphal West police rounded up four MSF activists from its Dhobi Machu Leirak Sega Road office at around 5 pm.
Those pulled up by the police included president of the students' organisation Mongjam Umakanta, vice president Aheibam Boinao, assistant finance secretary F Javelin and MSF Imphal East unit president Keisham Romeo.
At around 11.30 am, MSF volunteers stormed Lamphel office complex of the Directorate, asked employees/visitors to vacate the complex and then put lock on the main gate.
Speaking to newspersons at the agitation site, MSF general secretary RN Koireng declared that until and unless the Supreme Court decree prohibiting conduct of MBBS/BDS test is placed for public knowledge the Directorate office will remain shut.
Strongly condemning last minute cancellation of the medical entrance examination even after completing the process of issuing test form, admit card and allotment of exam centres, Koireng proposed that relevant measures be taken up by the Government to enable the medical aspirants appear the said examination.
Taking grim note that the people's representatives are yet to highlight inconveniences and mental harassment endured by the candidates, he alleged incompetency of Medical Directorate authorities for the present mess.
