New Delhi, August 09, 2012:
Like in past years, the Office of the Resident Commissioner, Manipur Bhawan, New Delhi will celebrate the Patriots' Day at Manipur Tikendrajit House, Chanakyapuri here on August 13 at 9 am.
The 13th August is a red-letter day in the history of Manipur.
On this fateful day in 1891, the two great patriots namely, Bir Tikendrajit, the prince of Manipur and General Thangal were hanged in broad daylight by the British in the presence of thousands of men and women at Pheidapung, present day BT Park, Imphal as these heroes had defended the freedom of Manipur against the British.
Floral tributes will be paid to the great martyrs of Manipur at the foot of the statue of Bir Tikendrajit installed at the Manipur Tikendrajit House which will be followed by two minute's silence.
The Resident Commissioner informed the Manipuris residing in Delhi and National Capital Region to attend the function.
