Imphal, January 04 2015:
Leimarol Khorjeikol (Leikol), Imphal observed a memorial ceremony of late Khaidem Pramodini Devi, one of the most celebrated writers of the State, at the residence of Kshetrimayum Subadani, Kwakeithel today.
The memorial service programme was presided by Leikol vice-president Professor Nahakpam Arun.
During the event, Leikol members and women writers from all over the State paid floral tributes to the portrait of the late writer.
A poetry recitation event was also hosted for poetesses during the ceremony.
Speaking at the occasion, N Arun said that women writers should pen down their opinions and feelings without any hesitation.
Though women writers appear later in the literary scene owing to lack of proper educational opportunities, they have been able to secure a reasonable position in the present day literary world.
Women writers, however, even in the modern day Manipur, are unable to free themselves from the tight roped, rigid society and its rules.
They ought to break away from the fear and constraints imposed upon them by the society if they are to produce good literature, the functional president added.
The commemoration event was organised to instill a sense of courage in budding women writers and help them through their struggle to break away from tradition and social webs, Arun added.
