World No Tobacco Day observed

Directorate of Health Services Manipur and State Health Society Manipur jointly observed world No Tobacco Day at JNIMS Hospital conference hall today.
Health and Family Welfare Services Minister D Korungthang, JNIMS Hospital Director Professor Deven Laishram, Health and Family Welfare Services Commissioner PK Singh, Health Services and SMD (NHM) Director O Ibomcha, Family Welfare Services Manipur Director Dr K Rajo and AYUSH Manipur Director Dr K Lokendro attended the observance.
Minister D Korungthang voiced the need to constitute no tobacco policy to curb tobacco use in the State.
He further urged the State Health Department to organise mass awareness against tobacco.
JNIMS Hospital Director Deven Laishram said tobacco is one leading cause of cancer in the world.
The hospital has recorded many deaths attributed to the use of tobacco.
Media has a huge role to play in spreading awareness on the ill-effects of using tobacco to the people, Deven stated.
Under the theme 'Get Ready for Plain Packaging' the Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Thoubal and Bharat Swaviman Trust, Thoubal observed World No Tobacco Day at Heirok Hr Sec School today with Harimayum Sanatomba Sharma, PYS Prabhari and K Lokendro Singh, DACYP member of NYK attending as chief guest and president respectively.
Later, the District Youth Coordinator and 10 volunteers of NYK joined hands in the State level observance of World No Tobacco Day at JNIMS, Imphal in which Health & Family Welfare Minister D Korungthang, PK Singh, Commissioner (Health & Family Welfare), and four other Directors attended, conveyed a press release issued by the District Youth Coordinator, NYK Thoubal.
