Imphal, May 31 2016:
BJP Manipur Pradesh has asserted that the Congress party has been making all efforts to cover up their lapses and wrongdoings by projecting the BJP Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the wrong light.
Speaking to media persons today, BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary Moirang-them Ashnikumar said that what Chief Minister O Ibobi stated during a flag hoisting ceremony and reported in media on May 29 was an attempt to cover up all the wrongdoings of the Congress Government.
The claim that construction of Mapithel Dam has been completed by 94 per cent is nothing but hogwash.
Thoubal Multipurpose Project and Mapithel Dam have missed several completion deadlines and the project has turned out to be a convenient avenue for amassing personal wealth by some influential people.
Although it has been 14 years that the Congress party has been ruling the State, Manipur remains quite backward in all aspects.
The State Government has allotted 366 acres of land for construction of National Sports University but the said land is mired in controversies.
Construction of sports university at Yaithibi Loukon without consent of the local people may snowball into a serious issue.
This particular project sanctioned by the Prime Minister for the benefit of the State could not be tapped on account of ineptness on the part of the Congress Government led by Ibobi, Ashnikumar said.
Following strong civil movements, the words 'without territorial limits' were removed from the ceasefire agreement signed between the NDA Government and NSCN-IM in 2001 and the then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee tendered an apology to the people of Manipur.
Atal Behari Vajpayee made it clear that modification of a State's boundary could not be done without consent of neighbouring States.
There was no hidden agenda in the framework agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN-IM last year.
Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh clarified that the Government of India would not do anything that may infringe upon the collective interest of the people of Manipur.
On the other hand, the Congress Government is unable to complete many major projects such as the Integrated Check Post, Moreh, Solid Waste Management Project, Imphal Sewerage Project etc.
A case is pending at the Supreme Court about the killing of 1272 people in fake encounters under the Congress Government which is acting as mute and blind to unlawful activities carried out by immigrants.
The Congress party is in power in only six States now namely Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Manipur, and this is a clear indication of the party's fading popularity, Ashnikumar said.
People have been compelled to launch more intensified forms of agitation over the ILPS issue because the Congress Government never bothered to tackle the issue in time.
He also appealed to all the communities, political parties and civil society organisations to sit together and bring a solution to the ILPS issue.
