Intending candidates seek extension of nomination days

The State Election Commission of Manipur is all set to hold the 5th General Panchayat election, including Zilla Parishad, Pradhan and ward members, on October 7 .
As per the public notice of the election, the last date for filing the nomination papers was fixed on August 25.However, today, a large numbers of intending candidates and proposers of Zilla Parishad, Pradhan and ward members, gathered at the DC office of Jiribam to seek extension of the deadline for filing the nomination papers .
The office remained closed today, to mourn the sudden demise of the longest Ex-Chief Minister and Parliamentarian of Manipur, Rishang Keishing .
Speaking to media persons, the candidates stated that they have not received the voter list, which is necessary to fill up the nomination papers, from the authority concerned and they are left with only two days to submit the nomination papers .
The candidates further stated that majority of them have not submitted nomination papers yet, due to non- issuance of voters list by the Election Department of Jiribam .
The intending candidates of Zilla Parishad, Pradhan and ward members of the Panchayat election appealed to the Deputy Commissioner of Jiribam to grant a three days extension for the submission of the nomination papers .
They warned the authority concerned with different forms of democratic agitation if they fail to submit the nomination papers, due to delay in issuing voters list.
