Screening camp for Hepatitis for Classic Group of Hotels concludes

The month-long awareness cum screening camp for Hep-B and Hep-C along with HBV vaccination for the staff of Classic Group of Hotels concluded today at Sendra Park and Resort, Sendra .
The series of camps which was held under the initiative of Community Network for Empowerment (CoNE) in association with Classic Group of Hotels and support from Cipla Ltd since August 5 ended along with sensitizing the staff of the resort on Wednesday .
On the final day of the camp, a total of 33 staff of Sendra Park and Resort were screened of both Hep-C and Hep-B along with vaccinating 32 staff of the resort .
During the month-long camp, a total of 466 staff of Classic Group of Hotels were screened of both Hep-C and Hep-B while a total of 407 staff vaccinated of Hep-B .
For the record, screening and awareness camps for Hep-C and Hep-B along with vaccination for Hep-B for Classic Hotel staff was held on August 5 and 6, on August 7 and 8 respectively for staff of Classic Grande and that of the staff of Hotel Imphal By The Classic was held on August 10 and 11 .
Speaking as resource person during the camp held today, CoNE president RK Nalinikanta informed that Hep-C has now become the most life threatening disease in the world with many people across the globe dying of the dreaded disease on a daily basis.
However, the level of awareness among the people on Hep-C is very low .
He also said that altogether 40 countries across the globe have national plan but there is no national plan for India as of now despite the fact that India ranks third among the worst Hep-C hit countries of the world next to Pakistan and China .
While highlighting the global scenario of the disease, Nalinikana informed that 257 million people worldwide has been affected by Hep-C, 2.7 million people are co-infected with Hep-B and HIV, 71 million people with chronic Hep-c and 2.3 million people co-infected with HIV and Hep-C .
He also pointed out that Hep-C has also reached the general population in Manipur with around 4 percent of the general population affected by Hep-C according to individual studies.
