Numerous organizations today condemned the attack on the 14th Bn CRPF post at Lamka Community Hall, Upper Lamka here around 1 am of July 12.The attack, carried out by the UNLF and the exchange of fire that ensued had resulted in the injuring of a CRPF jawan and damaging of nearby residential buildings and household properties.
A Maruti car belonging to T Chinlian EE (Retd) (MN 02/5874) was also damaged by strayed bullets and a domesticated dog killed and taken away.
There were numerous bullet holes at the walls and roofs of houses nearby and stray bullets had hit even mosquito nets and beds and other household articles.
The militants had also fired upon the District Hospital nearby where some CRPF personnel are stationed, damaging the water tanks and some staff quarters, apart from creating midnight panic to patients and local people.
The organizations which issue press releases condemning the shooting incident are Paite Tribe Council Hq (PTC), Young Paite Association (YPA) Lamka Unit, Indigenous Tribe Leaders Council (ITLC), Lamka Sports Club (LSC), Kustoo United (KU) and Zomi Human Rights Foundation (ZHRF).
All of them strongly deplored the wanton and deliberate staging of conflict in a public residential area and wished that all concerned will show some basic sense to respect human life.
The organizations also equate the act with terrorism and also express appreciation of the restraint shown by the CRPF in responding to the attack which evidently save lots of lives.
The staff of the District Hospital, Ccpur had also yesterday issued a release condemning the shoot out inside the hospital premises and all staff on duty started wearing black badges as a mark of protest today.
It may be noted that the latest incident is the third time this year in which the security forces were targeted in a public civilian area in Churachandpur.
