Imphal, February 04 2016:
Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup has urged the State Government to revoke its decision to set up a Ramkrishna Mission School at Uripok Tondonsana High School.
Speaking to reporters at IPAK office, Keishampat, Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup convenor Lourembam Lotika said that Uripok Tondonsana High School is the only Government residential school of Imphal West district.
She said that around 320 students belonging to poor families are reading in the school.
Lotika said that Education Minister M Okendro cannot justify abolition of the school by merely giving an order to shift the students to a Government school located at Lamboikhongnangkhong.
She said that the new buildings constructed with the funds from RMSA and SSA at the school campus are yet to be utilised.
As such, instead of abolishing the school, the Education Minister must put in joint efforts with different organisations of Uripok towards developing the school.
The Government has flouted the Right to Education of poor students as it has taken its decision without considering the inconvenience of the students and consulting the school authority.
Lotika said that they have submitted representations to the Chief Minister and Education Minister urging them to drop their plan of setting up Ramkrishna Mission School at the school on January 1 .
She further said that they would put up the matter to the Union Human Resource Minister if the State Government does not revoke its decision at the earliest.
She said that Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup is ready to launch democratic agitations in association with different CSOs if the demand is not fulfilled.
Although, opening of Ramkrishna Mission Schools in the State is a positive change, this new development must not give impact to the students belonging to poor families, she said.
