Stepping up its drive against abuse and illicit trafficking of drug, All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) has seized 42 pieces and 16 strips of the banned SP tablets from Nambol and Kwakta area along with pulled up peddlers in this connection.
Volunteers of AMADA Nambol Local Council pulled up two persons who are in the habit of abusing as well as peddling drugs along with 42 pieces of SP tablets during a drive launched at Nambol Bazar at around 10 am on January 1.The arrested persons have been identified as T Nicky Singh s/o T Budhachandra Singh of Takhel Leikai City School Maning and T Manaobi Singh/ s/o T Ghanashyam of Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai.
Parading them before mediapersons at AMADA Head office here today, general secretary of AMADA Nambol Local Council P Ibotombi Singh said it has been found out during the course of interrogating that T Sanamacha alias Thembung Singh, brother of T Manaobi Singh is also in the habit of abusing SP tablets.
On the other hand, Kwakta Local Council of AMADA rounded up two other persons along with 16 strips of SP tablets during a drive launched on December 31.The arrested persons have been identified as Razakudin s/o MV Saheruddin and Md Helaludin s/o Md Kamrudin, both residents of Kwakta ward no..6At the time of arresting the two persons, their family members allegedly used parliamentary languages on the volunteers leading to confrontation.
As the matter could not be resolved by the volunteers of AMADA Kwakta Local Council themselves, the case was handed over to AMADA head office, a spokesman of Kwakta Local Council informed.
The spokesman further informed that following the disclosure made by Md Razakudin, the volunteers were planning to go and pick up five boxes of SP tablets from the possession of one Md Mujubur Rahman s/o Md Atao Rahman of Kwakta Ward no.5, when family members of Md Razakudin and Md Helaludin came and attacked the assistant drive secretary of Kwakta Local Council Md Firoj of Tera Khongshangbi.
Even as the injured Firoj was brought to the head office of AMADA, two arrested drug abusers and peddlers broke the locks of the room where they were lodged at AMADA Mayai local and escaped.
AMADA head office has asked both of them to surrender within January 5.Md Mujubur Rahman has also been asked to surrender along with the said five boxes of SP tablets to AMADA within January 5.
