Regional Saras Fair-2016 kicks off

Imphal, October 27 2016:
A two-week Regional Saras Fair-2016 organised by Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission (MSRLM), Government of Manipur under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India has kick started today at Tiddim Ground, Kwakeithel, Imphal.
Altogether, 210 stalls from different districts of Manipur are participating in the fair.
Regional Saras Fair-2016 is being organised with an aim to uplift the rural economy and make all poor households self-reliant with sustainable and dignified means of livelihood through vibrant community based institutions.

Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly Constituency MLA RK Anand graced the inaugural function as the chief guest while Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Secretary Suman Singh and Imphal West district DC Robert Singh Kshetrimayum were the president and guest of honour.
MLA RK Anand applauded MSRLM for organizing such fair which will enhance the economy of the financially deprived families and alleviate poverty.
Such fair is an opportunity for handloom and handicraft artisans to showcase their products, he said.
He further said that the works of MSRLM has also given opportunities to people to work and generate income.
Handloom and handicraft products of Manipur are well known across the globe and people should capitalize on the fame.
Producing quality based products will increase buyers and bring economic development, he added.
Suman Singh also stressed on various steps taken up by MSRLM and said that its mission is to reduce poverty by enabling the poor households to access gainful self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities which will result in appreciable improvements in their livelihoods on a sustainable basis.
DC Robert Singh Kshetrimayum said that the fair is a good platform for artisans to showcase indigenous products and will also encourage local entrepreneurship.
