Imphal, February 22 2012:
Report compiled by the Manipur Chief Electoral Officer with regard to mismatch between photos of voters while casting vote in the January 28 hustings and those pasted in the photo electoral roll was examined by the full commission of Election Commission of India in the presence of legal experts for the second successive day today.
Based on complaints received by the State Election authorities, the CEO report regarding electoral mal-practices in 523 polling stations was personally handed over to the ECI team by the Joint CEO N Praveen yesterday.
According to informed source, there is no official correspondence from the ECI team to the State CEO office on the assessment of the latter's report even though repoll in many of the polling stations seems imminent.
Confiding that in case no official report is received from the ECI by tomorrow there might be problem in security and vehicle arrangements due to time constraints and other factors if repoll is to be actually conducted, the source said as photographing of voters before casting votes had taken place in Manipur for the very first time the ECI is very serious for successful implementation of the new electoral rigours.
