Imphal, February 16, 2013:
Funds meant for the development of hill areas are being misappropriated by the concerned people's representatives, said United Committee Manipur (UCM) Secretary General Jaychandra Konthoujam.
He was speaking as chief guest at the 7th Aimol Baptist Association Fellowship Meet being held at Kumbirei of Chandel district today.
Jaychandra said that there is a separate Government Department to look after the development of hill areas.
Although, adequate funds are provided by the Government to bring development in hill areas through this Department, respective people's representatives have siphoned off the said funds, he alleged.
He added that such misconduct of the people's representatives is the root cause for all the mistrusts and blame games currently prevailing among different communities in Manipur.
Saying that the current generation must not forget the fact that different communities have been residing together in Manipur since time immemorial, Jaychandra observed that such trait of harmonious living adopted by the forefathers must be traced again to bring harmony in the State.
Jaychandra further said that common people must understand the division plots set by the people's representatives for their personal gains.
Bible recitation, song competition and religious ceremonies were the main highlights of the meet being taken part by around 1000 people of Aimol community.
The three-day meet being organised under the theme, Whom shall I send and who will go for ages' will conclude tomorrow.
