Ukhrul, May 13 2022:
Barely 48 hours after the people of Hunphun/Ukhrul put a restriction on the construction work of Pettigrew College Academic Block indefinitely, a meeting was held today in the presence of MOBEDS technical staff and leaders of Ukhrul CSOs at the college complex to sort out the difference, if any.
The meeting, however, ended inconclusively as the CSO leaders were not satisfied with the points presented by the staff of MOBEDS, who allegedly informed that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) was altered to obtain technical sanction.
The meeting was also attended by the sub- contractors of the project and Principal of Pettigrew College Soreishang Kasar.
During the meeting, the Principal of Pettigrew College said that the staff of the college have little knowledge of the time-bound project as no blue prints or any documents were given to them for references or to monitor the work quality from time to time.
Meanwhile, AE of MOBEDS Shangmishang clarified that the contractors were instructed to execute the work as per the drawing of the Academic Block.
It may be mentioned that the locals of Hunphun/Ukhrul village had also claimed that the iron bars supposed to be used in the project were 30mm but the same were changed to 20mm and 16mm instead while the number of RCC pillar iron M/s bars was reduced from 12 to 10 .
Regarding this, the AE assured that this would be rectified.
Subsequently, the Ukhrul CSOs asked the visiting team to produce the needed documents for verification.
The latter, however, couldn't produce the documents and this failed to convince the CSO leaders.
HKL president Ngaworpei Ragui asked why the Academic Block was constructed on the college ground although there is land development provision.
The discussion didn't give any meaningful outcome and as such another meeting has been fixed on May 17 to ascertain the exact specification of the ongoing project.
