Abducted JCB driver freed

23-year-old JCB driver Khumanthem Tondonba who was abducted by unknown armed miscreants on May 3 from a go-down at Tuingam village, Churachandpur, has been freed unharmed.
Khumanthem Tondonba s/o Khumanthem Kwaklei of Pukhao Naharup Awang Leikai was engaged as a JCB driver under contractor T Lala of Lingsiphai village, Churachandpur.
On May 3 at around 11 pm, Tondonba was abducted from their go-down at Tuingam village, Churachandpur near Bongbal village.
Speaking to media persons today, Tondonba said his captors had him blindfolded from the beginning.
He was transported from one hillock to another for a few nights, Tondonba recollected.
After a few days of changing places, his captors left him on a hill top.
Tondonba reached T Lala's house at around 4 pm yesterday.
He recollected that no violence was meted out on him by his captors.
The driver said that he was abducted in connection with the monetary demand of Rs 70 lakh served to the contractor.
JAC convenor Okram Saratchandra lauded Churachandpur ADC, Members, clubs, meira paibis, Zillai Vaiphei Association, Churachandpur and Churachandpur Meitei Society for their contributions in securing the safe release of Tondonba.
