Imphal, May 11 2016:
The National Peoples' Party (NPP) would not be a party of the allparty delegation led by the Chief Minister which will go to New Delhi to urge the Government of India to clear the three Bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 last year.
Speaking to media persons at their MG Avenue office this afternoon, NPP Manipur president and former Minister Thangminlen Kipgen said that NPP was not given any information about the all political parties meeting held on May 9 .
Nonetheless, the party got information about the meeting indirectly from other political parties and social networking sites.
It is a matter of serious concern that no information was given to the party in an official manner when the meeting was about one of the most crucial issues of the State.
He pointed out that NPP was recognised as a political party by the Election Com- leadership and this smacked of mission of India in 1989 .
As NPP did not take part in the meeting, the party would not endorse whatever decisions adopted at the meeting, Thangminlen said.
NPP has nothing against the campaign to protect indigenous people and it would support all efforts to check influx into the State.
But NPP cannot accept the decision of the all political parties' meeting to depute a delegation to New Delhi to urge the Government of India to give assent to their three
Bills in view of their controversial nature.
Political parties alone cannot take a final decision on the issue.
The issue demands a consensus among all stake-holders, civil society organisations, intellectuals and the general public of both the hills and the valley.
Travelling to Delhi without any consensus on the issue is nothing but adhocism at the best.
To the NPP, passage of the three Bills without consulting the Hills Areas Committee was violation of Article 371-C of the Indian Constitution, Thangminlen added.
