Proposed bandh called off

Imphal, May 11 2016:
The 36 hours State-wide bandh called by the Mayang Imphal Clubs Coordinating Committee (MICCC) from 5 am of May 12 has been called off temporarily.
The bandh was called demanding the Government to institute a judicial enquiry into the incident of violence and arson that broke out between two groups at Mayang Imphal on April 11 .
Education Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar, Imphal West DC Ningthoujam Geoffrey and representatives of MICCC held a meeting at the Minister's Babupara quarters this morning.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, MICCC general secretary Meinam Khelendro said that the DC assured to fulfil their demands at the earliest.
Apart from judicial enquiry, MICCC has been asking to compensate the victims whose houses were burnt and also to provide monetary assistance to those who suffered injuries.
As they suffered critical injuries Moirangthem Premkumar alias Kokngang and Ngangom (O) Maipakpi are currently undergoing treatment at Guwahati.
Except for the Rs two lakh donated by the MICCC, no assistance has come from the Government so far, Khelendro decried.
