Imphal, May 11 2016:
Sagolband AC ex MLA Dr Kh Loken has categorically stated that he resigned from Congress party due to discrimination, favouritism and nepotism prevalent within the Congress party.
Speaking to media persons at his Takhel Leikai residence this afternoon, Loken said that many prospective candidates of the IMC election scheduled on June 2 have been snubbed by the party leadership and this smacked of sheer discrimination and favouritism.
Rather than working to strengthen Congress party and take the factor of seniority into consideration, allotment of party tickets or selection of candidates who would be allotted party tickets exposed utter disrespect of common norms.
Many unethical practices which were unheard of within MPCC in the past have become a norm within the party after a new MPCC president has been appointed, Loken alleged.
As they feel unhappy about the way candidates Vave been selected for the IMC election in total contradiction of the list of candidates recommended by Sagolband Block Congress Committee, members of the committee, Sagolband Block Mahila Congress Committee, Councillors, Ward Members and executives and members of Sagolband Block Youth Congress Committee have tendered their resignation.
Now four Councillors would seekre-election as independent candidates.
They resigned from Congress party not to join other political parties but they were compelled to resign from the party due to the injustice done to them, Loken said.
The list of candidates submitted by the Sagolband Block Congress Committee included incumbent Councillors K Tikendra (ward no 8), S Tiken (ward no 10) and Kalanchonglu Gangmei (ward no 24).It remains a mystery why these sitting Councillors have not been selected for Congress tickets, Loken decried.
He said that from today onward he would work freely for all the major issues of the State as an activist.
"I would fight the next Assembly election after consulting my supporters and well-wishers.
But it would be premature to tell on which party ticket I would fight the election", he continued.
Kalanchonglu Gangmei said that she was serving the people for the last many years as she was elected to IMC for the past two consecutive terms.
"But I have been denied Congress party ticket this time which only smacked of discrimination and favouritism prevalent within the party" she added.
