Imphal, May 11 2016:
DMC Science Students' Union and LMS Law College Students ' Union have warned of launching agitation against the MOBC Department if the scholarships for Minority and OBC students are not released by May 20 .
In a statement, the general secretary of DMC Science Students' Union stated that the MOBC Department has not released the entitled scholarship for OBC and Minority students even after repeated reminders.
He further stated that there has been instance of transfer of scholarship amount to fake account holders instead of the genuine beneficiaries but no appropriate action has been taken against the offending officials by the Government.
The union also declared its support for any agitation launched by different student organisations against the MOBC Department regarding the matter, it added.
It may be recalled that the office of the MOBC Director was shut down in protest by students on April 12 following which the scholarship amount was transferred to bank accounts of few beneficiary students and AMSU general secretary Manjit Sarangthem had earlier said that the scholarships are transferred to the bank accounts of beneficiary students each year between November 10 to 20, but MOBC Department has not followed this system in years.
On the other hand, LMS Law College Students' Union also urged the department concerned to disburse the scholarships of OBC and Minority students immediately and also pledged its support in the agitation launched by AMSU against MOBC Department demanding timely release of scholarship amount.
