Imphal, May 11 2016:
People's Movement for Resurgent Manipur (PMRM) strongly objected the proposed Ukhrul House in Imphal.
In a statement, PMRM publicity secretary Khagemba Ningthouja said that the idea of 'Ukhrul House' seems a hidden agenda for few politicians who are interested to divide hills and valley.
"PMRM understands the miseries of hill brothers and sisters and the inconveniences encountered by people from the Hill districts when they came to Imphal.
But there are lots of options to solve these problems," it said.
The Central Government has been providing several funds for construction of short stay homes/hostels to support tribals and minorities.
And many such shelters are also set up in Imphal with the sole purpose of helping the tribal population.
The Phugreiyur Welfare Association (PWA) should first check the proper functioning of these centres, it said.
With regards to the proposal for construction of Ukhrul House, the PWA should clarify why they want such House in Imphal.
Ukhrul is neither a State of India nor a country, it said.
"We would not tolerate such political conspiracy.
Ukhrul is a district of Manipur and administered by Government of Manipur," it said while urging the body concerned not to try acting smart by proposing such demands which is impossible and has the potential to sow seed of hatred among the future generations," it said.
"Ukhrul House" will be another political blunder.
Is it the first step for the demand for Sixth schedule where Ukhrul thought as separate entity from GOM? Will this pave the way for other districts to demand their respective Houses in Imphal, directly paving way for separate administration demand,? it asked.
PMRM also condemned those dignitaries present at Lamyanba Sanglen to seek plot for Ukhrul House in Imphal for their myopic vision.
