Vehicles stranded at Mao escorted back

Imphal, December 08 2016:
A large number of vehicles stranded at Mao Gate including loaded trucks on account of the ongoing indefinite economic blockade were escorted up to Imphal by a large number of security forces this morning.
It was the second time that stranded vehicles were escorted up to Imphal under heavy security arrangement along this stretch of the highway.
The stranded vehicles started moving toward Imphal last night under tight security arrangement.
Even though very few civilians could be seen at Mao Keithel, a large number of security forces wearing protective gears in bullet proof vehicles could be seen there.
Women police personnel were also deployed at Mao and they were seen doing their duty undaunted by the freezing temperature of December night.
Soon after IGP (Zone-I) Clay Khongsai reached Mao, around 300 vehicles stranded there started moving toward Imphal.
A large number of security forces including Assam Rifles, Manipur Rifles, IRB, CRPF, police commandos and VDF were deployed in close proximity all along the highway from Mao to Kangpokpi.
IG (Zone-II) L Kailun and IG T Guite stationed themselves at Senapati and monitored the security situation, and the overall situation was monitored by ADG C Doungel.
Bullet proof vehicles of Assam Rifles were seen parked at different points along the highway.
The convoy of vehicles was also closely guarded by security forces along Kangpokpi-Imphal section too.
