Police remand for MDs extended

Special Judge NIA-Manipur further remanded managing director of Salai Group of Companies Elangbam Brojendro and managing director of Smart Society, Narengbam Biswajit to three days police custody (till December 7) .
Elangbam Brojendro and Narengbam Biswajit who is the elder brother of Narengbam Samarjit, were arrested on December 2 for allegedly running a ponzi scheme and in connection with a case registered against Narengbam Samarjit former Managing Director of the Salai Group of Companies and Smart Society, who had announced formation of a Government in exile in London on October 29 last year.
The two were remanded to 3 days NIA custody after they were produced before the Court of Special Judge NIA-Manipur on December 3.With the completion of the earlier 3 days remand, the accused were produced before the same Court today.
During today's hearing, Vinod Bhagwan Kadam, Assistant Investigation Officer of NIA prayed the Court to grant judicial custody remand of the two accused till December 19 .
The Counsels of the two accused, on the other hand, prayed the Court to release them on bail but NIA submitted objections to deny the bail.
The accused persons, Elangbam Brojendro and Narengbam Biswajit had also filed additional statements in addition to their previous bail applications today.
The Special PP of NIA submitted that the copies of the additional statements of the accused persons were received at about 11.19 am today and as such the NIA be given an opportunity for filing written objections against the additional statements.
The Court observing the submission of the Special PP of NIA and considering all the factual matrix and situation of the case, provided NIA an opportunity to file written objection against the written statements filled by the accused persons.
The Court in the meantime turned down the NIA's prayer for remanding the accused to judicial custody until December 19 but granted 3 days remand (till December 7) to police custody so that there will be proper hearing next time and NIA can file reply to the additional statements which were submitted today.
The Court while directing NIA to produce the accused on December 7 at 11 am, also granted liberty to NIA to produce any document relating to the case.
