Imphal, April 05 2012:
All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) has suggested the State Government to educate the State forces on ill effects of intoxicants instead of arming them with sophisticated weapons in the name of police modernization.
In a press release, publicity and propaganda secretary of the social body, K Hemabati Chanu said, recent cases of involvement of IRB personnel in rape and drug peddling indicate moral degradation of uniformed forces of the State.
She said that the State Government needs to educate its uniformed forces on healthy lifestyle, ill effects of intoxicants and human rights instead of arming them with sophisticated weapons and providing them better vehicles in the name police modernization.
K Hemabati also expressed serious concern over the recent rape of a woman from Nungleiband by IRB personnel and the arrest of eight IRB personnel with 93 kgs of ephedrine and a huge quantity of different drugs by Assam Rifles personnel.
Remembering the Opium War broke out in China in the 18th Century, Hemabati expressed suspicion that somebody might be conspiring to annihilate the people of the State.
She suggested the State Government to take up immediate measures to fend of such threats in order to save the lives of the people from intoxicants.
