UNC decides to oppose Orange fest

The United Naga Council (UNC) today decided to oppose the State Government sponsored Orange Festival to be celebrated at Tamenglong District HQ and any part of the district on December 9 .

Secretary of UNC said that the Naga people in its 3rd Naga People Convention held on July 1, 2010 at Tahamzam (Senapati) had declared severance of political ties with the Government of Manipur as they believed impossible to protect and safeguard their rights over land and its natural resources, history, culture, tradition, identity and time honoured institutions in the present state of Manipur.
It continued that since the government of Manipur has been opposing the settlement of Indo-Nag political issue and also as the Naga people could not live with dignity and honor under the Government of Manipur the Naga people had declared severance of political ties with the Government of Manipur.
While appealing to all Zeliangrong frontal organizations, church leaders, social workers and all the individuals of Tamenglong District not to co-operate and support the ensuing state sponsored Orange Festival to be organized at Tamenglong District the United Naga Council warned that any organizations or individuals defying the directive shall be at his own risk.
