Local bodies of Thangmeiband area have drawn the attention of the authority concerned of the State Government regarding inconvenience being faced by the general public with prolonged delay in the completion of road construction of Yumnam Leikai and Watham Leirak.
Peeved with the lackadaisical attitude of the Government shown towards the completion of the these two roads, Thangmeiband Improvement Club (TIC), Thangmeiband United Club (TUC) and Thangmeiband Apunba Nupi Lup (THANIL) threatened to launch different forms of agitation in case the Government fails to complete the road construction at the earliest.
In a press conference, TIC convenor Elangbam Tomba said that locals have been pressuring the Government regarding the matter from time to time.
However, the government did not heed the call of the local people.
In this regard, he demanded that a white paper on the construction of these two roads be shown and spelled out the names of the contractors to the general public.
The convenor also decried the assertion of Works Minister in the State Assembly that no fund could be provided for the completion of the two roads for the time being in view of the weak economic condition of the Government.
Saying that the people of Thangmeiband want to know the person who is playing politics with the hardship and inconvenience of the people, the convenor opined that Minister's statement would only invite intense agitation.
He said that the rainy season has already started and the people would no longer bear the betrayal of the Government.
