Meira Paibi Day, known as women torch bearers, was observed today in the state with various functions discussing about the role of the women in the state for the protection of rights of the people in the trouble torn state of Manipur.
The main function of the 12th observance of the day was held at THAU ground, Imphal, organised by the Meira Paibi Numit Observation Committee where many noted social workers and intellectuals talked on the role of the women in trouble torn Manipur society.
People should raised voice against if any of the revolutionary or insurgent outfits waging war against the governments to achieve their goal.
They should be taught lesion by the people if they turn towards the people, advisor of AMUCO, Prof Dhanabir Laishram said speaking on the occasion.
The present chaotic situation in the state is the creation of the Government of India.
The government, some insurgent outfits and people are caught in the divide and rule policy of the Indian leaders, he worried.
Any effort of New Delhi to break the harmonic living of different communities in the north eastern region should be face by the concerted efforts of the people of the region, he called for.
Now is not the time to think and doing works in the interest one's own community but to join hand in hand among the different communities of the north east region of the country to defeat the divide and rule policy of the India, he went on to observed.
President of the Irabot Foundation, Th Iboyaima who graced the function as chief guest said that lauded the decision of the Manipur government banning NSCN (IM) leader Th Muivah visiting the state as it intense to break the territorial integrity of the state.
People of the state are facing battle.
They are living at the limit of woes.
There is apprehension of vanishing the state one day.
Knowing this, only the people of the state but also the north east need to join together and confront with the challenges ahead of the people of the region together.
President of AMUCO, KT Rehman termed the imposition of indefinite economic blockade on the national highways 53 and 39 as unfortunate.
If they (agitating ANSAM and other supporters) don't want the autonomous district council election, they can boycott it.
Instead of doing this, they were trying to bargain with the life of the people of the state.
This is an unjust one.
Any attempt to achieve certain goal with unfair means will not be possible, Rehman asserted.
He also demanded that government should try its best to open the NH-53 by deploying maximum security forces and import all the essential items.
If the shortages of these items allow continuing further, more serious untoward incidents could occur, he cautioned.
The observance function organised by the Meira Paibi Observation Committee graced by the president of the Irabot Foundation, Thounaojam Iboyaima was presided over by president of the Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, Longjam Memchoubi and president of the Meira Paibi Welfare Association, Kangleipak, Moirangthem Keinahal as guest of honour.
